2 weeks Home From School - with Three Teenage Daughters- DAY ONE

Well- Here we are - Home from school.  No direction from our district yet in what the students will be responsible for while we are home.  Things I know about school:
*All middle school and high school kids have already been issued Chrome Books.
*Some teachers built Google Classrooms last week.
*Our school administrators are meeting today to explore options and hopefully make decsions.  (Why this didn't happen before Day One of  the Government directed school closure, I am not sure.  This is somewhat typical of our district and a bit frustrating.)
*Our math curriculum is available on line with all teacher tools as well.  So as long as I can hang with junior high and high school math, we are good - except for the pacing piece.

Here are things I know about my household:
*Our internet is TERRIBLE!  AND we have zero cell phone service. But we are lucky enough to havve a back up plan.
*My kids don't like to wake up in the morning.  Finding the balance between letting them benefit a bit from this craziness and helping them build good life skills of setting schedules and sticking to them.  Today, I didn't have them all out of bed until after 8.  Ugh.  My excuse... we are still calving a bit and I have been going out with the husband to keep him company for moral support.  I am super groggy in the am.
*We are setting a schedule today.  Regardless of what direction the school gives us.  We will include: reading time, social media time, current events time, ranch chore time, house chore time, some time of spriritual enrichment- with fun attached,  fun with eachother time.  The girls will have a hand in this schedule.  If I dictate, they will resent me in NO time.  Two weeks is some TIME - but it may be longer.  We need to have something that is sustainable and resonable.
*I have threatened to homeschool in the past.  Now we get a chance at seeing how it would work for us.  With the girls being 13, 14 and 16, I think it's vital to build in personal responsibility and some self paced learning.
*I am excited to have the time with the girls.  I think we will be a better team.
*I am hopeful we can have some social time with friends- Being away from them isn't healthy.  They need their friends during the down time.  BUT we will need to make sure we are spreading anything OR getting anything.
*All the kids and I have fitbits.   We will be using them to track our steps, activity and down time.  ALSO - sleeping hours.  I feel like this will help our schedule and consistency.

Being a teacher, I have a load of resources and some time I can lend to help people through this.  I am NOT worried about making this work.  I am excited and you all should be too!  Bonus time with your kids!  As much as I hate to say it: time with NO activities taking the kids away from home will be a blessing.  Don't get me wrong - these same activities have enriched their lives and development - but honestly, a little hiatius from the insanity of life, will be wonderful for our mental health.  We just need to build in some social and physical activity outlets!

Stay tuned for
the kid's thoughts on this change in our lives.

Please - let me know if you have any questions- teacher or parent.  Happy to address them.

This prayer seems super fitting for times of change and possibly challenge.

Prayer to the Holy Family
copsed by Pope Francis

Family Jesus, Mary and Joseph,
in you we contemplate
the splendor of true love;
you you we turn with trust.

Holy Family of Nazareth,
grant that our families too
may be places of communion and prayer,
authentic schools of the Gospel
and small domestic churches.

Holy Family of Nazareth,
may families never again experience
violence, rejection and division;
may all who have been hurt or scandalized
findy ready comfort and healing.

Holy Family of Nazareth,
make us once more mindful
of the sacredness and inviolability of the family,
and it's beauty in God's plan.

Jesus, Mary and Joseph,
Graciously hear our prayer.  Amen.
